Battling The Witch by Storm Kai is an inner look at yourself.  We all must battle that witch that lives within us.   First we must look at how we became who we are and only after that can we discover how to transform our lives.  The section titled Our Beloved Lists struck true to me.   As children we have not experienced the hurt, disappointments and losses that we have as adults.  I also enjoy the section on gratitude.  Too many of us are never satisfied nor do we appreciate what we receive. Kai continues by discussing self forgiveness.  There is a section on romance.

As a child I dreamed of prince charming riding up on his white stallion.  He would place me on the horse in front of him, and we would ride off into the …happily for ever after.  Life isn’t like that.  I am happily married.  He’s almost Prince Charming …not quite.  His white stallion is a red pickup truck and happily ever after not the perfect life I envisioned as a child.  That doesn’t mean I am unhappy but expectations of a child and realistic life is two different things.  I don’t need a prince to carry me off into happily ever after.  However, I’m glad I have a real man to love me, care about me and that genuinely likes my company.

The author has placed in words what most mentally healthy people learn as they mature.  Life isn’t a fairy tale.  Our attitude and gratitude make a difference in the life we live.  This is a book about relationships, relationships, with friends, acquaintances, romantic and most importantly our relationship with ourselves.  One of the things that impressed, me was the author’s discussion on prayer.  She states that we tend to say prayer for the big things.  However, He is interested in every aspect of our lives.  I can name so many times when I have seen God at work in my life.  Kai writes an insight full book.

I loved this little book - it is packed with wisdom and light and inspires us to live deeper, more connected lives. Well written with humor and humility, the book is composed of a series of vignettes that each illuminate a greater whole of understanding thy self, each chapter a new leaf or prayer. What I really like about this book is that although it focuses on the significant achievement of self fulfillment, the writer uses her own experience of the every day world to ground us in that enlightened journey. As a result, this is perhaps the most accessible and calming self awareness book I have ever read. It is a shining gem.
