Talking to children before dental surgery is essential. This helps prevent fear and makes them feel more confident. An excellent option to address their concerns is Getting Ready for My Dental Surgery. Author Fei Zheng-Ward begins by explaining the role of dentists and oral surgeons and how they help care for teeth. Next, she describes what a dental surgery procedure is like, from arrival at the office to registration and the collection of basic information such as height and weight. This book encourages children to be brave and stay calm. It also explains what the anesthesia process is like. Finally, the author describes how they may feel after surgery, what to do to relax afterwards, and what foods are appropriate during recovery.

I loved how Fei Zheng-Ward provides detailed information in language suitable for children. The author uses short sentences and clear ideas, and the text is interactive. There are questions, some of which are multiple-choice, such as those that mention colors. Other questions are open-ended, allowing children to fill in information such as their height or weight. I loved the illustrations by Moch. Fajar Shobaru because these feature different boys and girls, rather than just one main character. This helps young readers see themselves in the story and connect more easily with the experience. I also loved that the characters look so cheerful and show big smiles, and the scenes help show children that the surgery room is a safe and comforting place. Getting Ready for My Dental Surgery will help young readers know what to expect from their surgery and can approach it with a positive attitude.
