I liked Beasts Shall Reign Over the Earth! by Michael and Danny D'Agostino. It is a good detective story that paints a great picture of life in Manhattan, particularly the family life of a proud family of recent immigrants. I like to read stories like this, positive stories of how immigrants from Mexico and other countries work hard to get ahead and contribute, and even improve life here in America. I just don’t subscribe to the attitude made popular by our current president that these immigrants are criminals and people looking to join the welfare rolls. The Rodriguez family in lower Manhattan is the perfect example of this and Teresa, a policewoman, is the driving force of this novel, which, when all is said and done, is a great detective story done in a refreshing new manner.
I love the Rodriguez family. I especially love Teresa. This is a detective story and she is a great detective. The plot is unique. It is developed logically from small beginnings into a massive conclusion. I usually say which element of the story I feel is the strongest in a book, but in Beasts Shall Reign Over the Earth! I just can’t pick the strongest point. Michael and Danny D'Agostino wrote all of the elements superbly and they balance out into a gripping story. The characters, the plot, the pictures of life in Manhattan all come together to make a great book. This is crime writing at its finest and I look forward to reading more books by these two writers.
