Claire was a book editor. Her boss was both a mentor and friend. When he decided to retire, she took a job with Grant Books, run by Vivian Grant. Soon Claire discovers that her new boss is the boss from hell. Most people either quit their job or are fired, but Claire is determined to last a year. Vivian wants different, exciting, and smutty books. She and Claire disagree when Claire goes against Virginia’s decision concerning a book by Luke Mayville. Claire became engaged to rich and handsome, Randall Cox, but she was drawn to Luke. What do you do when you hate your boss and have two men paying attention to you?

Because She Can is a fun read. Once I started it, I could not put it down. I just kept turning pages and read it in one sitting. Birdie Clark has a talent for adding just the right amount of humor. Fans of Chick Lit do not miss Because She Can.

Because She Can is a chick coming-of-age novel :) You will enjoy seeing Claire develop from a smart, talented "good girl" to a great woman. With the exception of a few you will love to hate, the engaging characters are good people with forgivable flaws that only make them more interesting.

If you like Jane Green, Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinsella, you will surely enjoy this book!

I quickly found myself sucked into this humourous adventure and did not want to put it down till I discovered Claire's fate- person & professional. ALthough her evil boss, Vivian Grant, steals the show with her over-the-top tantrums which had me laughing out loud, I found myself rooting for Claire and dying to know what she'll do next- with crazy Vivian and with the two men in her life. Beyond the crazy boss drama, the love story is beautiful and builds in a slow, believable way. I also loved the insider's look at the book publishing world- however regardless of your industry, anyone and everyone can relate to Claire's world. The book is extremely amusing and well written- perfect entertainment to curl up with on a winter afternoon!

"I found Because She Can to be surprisingly funny and fresh given its similarities to "The Devil Wears Prada" -- in some places, laugh-out-loud funny -- and found myself rooting for the main character, Claire. I think anyone who's had to deal with a true boss from hell would relate to her, as would anyone who has had their stressful work life affect their personal life. Claire was less whiney than Andrea in The Devil Wears Prada and her boss is 100 times worse (boss's tantrums were among the funniest scenes!). This book is definitely worth reading if you want something entertaining and fast!"

This was probably one of the best chick lit books I've read in a while.

It has everything: understated love, overstated love, a tyrannical boss, and a hard working heroine with a strong set of friends and family behind her for support. Clark made each character either extremely likable or extremely unlikable. It's pretty clear cut how she wanted her characters portrayed.

It does channel "The Devil Wears Prada" a bit too much at times. I believe that she even refers to boss Vivian Grant as the "dragon lady," as "Prada" does to Miranda Priestly. Regardless, this is a fabulous book that I probably will not stop talking to my friends about until they read it.

It's fun, fast, and really easy to read. I won't reduce to simply a "beach read" as some much chick lit is. Instead, this one is worth savoring. I hope Clark continues to work on other projects. I would love to see if she has another terrific book up her sleeves.

I loved this a lot. The author is very smart & truly captures the New York publishing world in such a lively way while also exploring her personal life, with the two tying together beautifully.

For a week I replaced my nightly winding down time usually spent watching the 10pm rerun of Sex and the City with Because She Can. It proved to be the perfect replacement for my daily 20-something female need for a little dose of gossip, dreams of the perfect love, and inspiration to rise in a few hours to get back at the daily career grind like a superstar! Aside from the outrageously entertaining character interactions, Because She Can gives an honest perspective of the single, city working girl...a place in life filled with countless seemingly unbelievable situations, but endless opportunity. It's comforting to know Claire is out there with me!

BECAUSE SHE CAN is a winning addition to the boss-from-hell canon. Bridie Clark's talent shines brightest during Claire Truman's run-ins with Vivian Grant; their exchanges are brilliantly executed and, at times, are laugh-out-loud funny. The overarching story of balancing ambition and love is par for the chick-lit course, but Clark distinguishes herself from the pack with her gift for dialogue and with her deft turns of phrase. Clark is a writer to watch and her debut novel is just plain fun.

This was a great quick read that kept me interested in the characters and the storyline the whole time!! If you liked "The Devil Wears Prada" you will love this book too!

It is about this working woman named Claire, who is an editor and the ups and downs about working with her new boss Vivien and Claire's love life and her friends. I liked it, it is an interesting read.

A fun book, especially when you know the character that is portrayed! Devilishly delicious and lighthearted read.
