Beefy Goes from Bully to Buddy is the third in Dagmara Sitek’s Courage Tales series which, judging by the titles of the previous two, focuses on kindness and empathy – both sorely needed in our complex technological world where human connections can be so hard to find. The titular Beefy is a bully, disliked by all and seemingly unchecked until the Super Buddies and their hero bot intervene with compassion and discover Beefy's troubled home life and hidden talents. Together, the quintet enters a video game to rescue Beefy's neglectful mother and father, being held prisoner inside the program by a goblin who preys upon absentee parents. As Beefy discovers his hidden strengths, employs his ingenious inventions, and bonds with his new friends, he loses his taste for bullying and becomes a confident, capable pre-adolescent.

Apart from being a tremendously entertaining friendship tale for young readers, Beefy Goes from Bully to Buddy by Dagmara Sitek is chock-full of powerful positive messages about self-worth, second chances, the vital importance of parental involvement in the lives of children, and the value of kindness, to name just a few. This book is targeted at an audience of six- to twelve-year-old readers, and illustrator Lau Frank’s colorful, comic-book-style visual support strikes the perfect chord to appeal to this particular audience. The images are vivid, lively, and easy to follow, making the superbly written narrative all the more accessible for young readers. Beefy Goes from Bully to Buddy is an entertaining, thought-provoking, timely, and refreshingly positive adventure for young readers that will pay moral and developmental dividends long after the first reading.

Beefy Goes From Bully to Buddy by Dagmara Sitek shares an exciting story with children in K-3rd grade. This book demonstrates how some children look like mean bullies when all they need is to be noticed and accepted. Many children are neglected and need someone to love and accept them. Young readers will enjoy this adventure as they learn that friendship, courage, and forgiveness can overcome whatever challenges come their way. Compassion sees beyond obvious behavior and discovers the need causing unacceptable actions. Lau Frank does a great job of illustrating this book. Children will love the hero bot, Giorgio, and find being drawn into a computer game very interesting. Be sure to take time to discuss this book and how your children can show compassion to those who are hurting.

Beefy is the school bully, and nothing makes him smile. Even when he scores the winning goal, he gets angry. When he confronts Gavin after the game, Gavin calls his friends to help him. When the Super Buddies arrive, they walk Beefy home so they can speak to his parents. At the house, while looking for Beefy's parents, they see all the incredible things that Beefy has made. Beefy tells them that he spends most of his time alone and that his best friend is a game character. When they find the parents' phones, they realize something is wrong. When they reach the computer, it is apparent that Beefy's parents were pulled into a computer game. In this virtual world, Beefy's computer character friend, Trumble, tries to harm Beefy's parents. Beefy and the Super Buddies enter the game to save his parents. Afterward, Beefy and his parents have a better relationship. His parents watch his games and spend time with him. Now that Beefy has his parents' attention, he is no longer angry and has made good friends.

Beefy Goes From Bully To Buddy by Dagmara Sitek is part of the Courage Tales series. This is aimed at children 6 to 12 years dealing with emotional intelligence, helping children understand the actions of others, in Beefy's case, that of a bully. The book teaches children that a bully is never a bully just for fun. When a child realizes that the bully has issues that make him act out, it can help them resolve the bully's actions. In this case, when Beefy's parents are in trouble, children who were not Beefy's friends help him save them. Showing empathy and caring about someone else is an essential emotional development for children. This book does a great job of teaching children to look at both sides of a matter and reach out to someone who seems in emotional need.

Beefy Goes From Bully To Buddy by Dagmara Sitek is part of the Courage Tales series for children. Beefy is a bully at Audacity Elementary School, but he’s also very clever at inventing things, and he’s hiding a secret. You see, Beefy’s parents don’t take any notice of him, and it makes him mad, but he also has a friend who lives in the virtual world – a naughty goblin called Trumble who’s all about revenge. One day, Beefy’s parents disappear inside a computer game, and only one person can save them – Beefy. With Loris, Cam, Inaya, and the Hero Bot, he enters the game where he has to face Trumble before freeing his parents from their prison. His journey teaches him many life lessons, turning Beefy from a bully into a real buddy.

Beefy Goes From Bully To Buddy by Dagmara Sitek is another story in the fantastic series of books for kids that teach courage. I’ve read all these books, and you should too, to get a feel for the characters. This one is about turning a bully into a friend, and it’s also about learning to work together to solve a problem. The story has an exciting plot, and, once again, the illustrations by Lau Frank help bring the story together. Ideal for kids up to the age of 12, this is about making friends and learning to empathize with others, and it’s a thrilling story that kids will love. Dagmara Sitek has written yet another valuable book for kids, parents, caregivers, and teachers to enjoy together, and it is the perfect mix of fun and education.
