Your Story Told by Another by Stanley Livingstone is a thought-provoking read. The author recounts the story of Jacob, a boy who meets a mysterious old man whom only he can see. This old man, possibly his inner self, seeks to mentor him and guide him in the path of providence. However, Jacob also has an inner adversary that tempts him to do evil. But is evil done for the greater good truly evil? Jacob saw a friend of his, Zoe, die due to drug abuse. However, when he is approached by his romantic interest to join a criminal syndicate pushing drugs, he reasons that some good can come of being involved with them. How long can he live as a hypocrite? Can he turn to the people around him, or the mysterious old man, to help him?
I greatly enjoyed reading Your Story Told by Another by Stanley Livingstone. This is a character-driven narrative. I loved how well-developed all the characters are. I found Jacob very relatable. Also, I especially enjoyed Chris’s character development. The plot was intriguing and well-paced. The plot twist at the end made me reconsider a lot of things I thought I knew. The author addresses several heavy themes, such as politics, war, religion, family, and romantic love, in a very thoughtful way. I do not agree with some of the ideas that were shared, but I appreciate that this work is a good conversation starter. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
