Beloved Traitor: She Craved and Hated Him by Julia Katz is a contemporary romance that asks the question would you return to a man you hated if he could help with your current situation? That's the question that Dalia is faced with. Years ago, she saw her husband Marc kiss a woman and left him. The divorce was never official, so when Dalia needs money for her mother's operation, she returned to ask Marc. Marc agreed on one condition. Dalia had to return home and live with him. Dalia knew the pain would be a lot to bear, but she also struggled with the feelings of lust that lingered beneath the hurt. She hated Marc for kissing that other woman because she loved him so much. Could she really move back in with him and forgive him for what he'd done? If she didn't, how would she live with herself for not helping her mother in her time of need?
I liked the question that the author put forth in this book because I think a lot of readers will relate to the idea of having to choose between two bad situations. But readers can also relate to the idea of simultaneously loving and hating someone. Dalia's feelings for Marc were justified and relatable. Many readers of romance may be experiencing a situation like this in their real lives and will enjoy reading about how Dalia chooses to handle it in her world. Nice job.
