Blades of Valor: Book Four in the Merlin’s Immortals series was written by Sigmund Brouwer. Blades of Valor wraps up this series. The end of book three left Thomas and Katherine searching for answers in the Holy Land. Book four picks up right where book three left off with Thomas and Katherine still in the Holy Land along with Sir William, searching for the Druid treasure. Thomas isn’t sure who he can trust; would Katherine betray him? Should he trust Sir William or should he place his faith in Sir Baldwin. Thomas returns to England where the Druids have devised a plot to take over.

The author allowed each book to build on the previous book; however, there are pros and cons to this method of writing. The pros are the ability to easily tie the plots together. The major con: The plots do not stand well alone. Book two needs the information from book one and so on. I enjoyed each book, but Blades of Valor is head and shoulders above the rest of the books in this series. Sigmund Brower answers the questions that plagued me after reading the last three books. He also allowed Thomas, Katherine, and most of the other characters to mature; this creates in each a multifaceted personality. This book is very appropriate for readers around the age of ten, plus the many adults that are fans of fantasy. The plot is engaging enough to keep this reader returning to Merlin’s Immortals.
