Blaze of Anger is the first installment of The Anger Series by Melanie Bokstad Horev. In the futuristic world of Eden in 4023, anger has no place in society. The ruling Federation, protected by a dome, controls the people of The Union living in a barren desert through their Silvers, advanced AI robots who work for the ruthless Federation leader Rita Hart. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Federation Forces, Doctor Hershel Tanger, is tasked with hunting down anyone who shows signs of anger. Haunted by the memories of a young boy named Billy Blaze, Tanger comes across a young man he thought he had lost forever, led by the attack on a Federation building from the rebels. With Rita becoming increasingly unhinged, Tanger must find a way to protect the people of the Union from being crushed into oblivion.
Blaze of Anger is a gripping dystopian sci-fi thriller filled with suspense, action, and intrigue. With a fast-paced narrative and a plot full of curveballs, Melanie Bokstad Horev weaves a captivating story that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The world-building here is simply phenomenal. Horev manages to build a sprawling world that feels at once futuristic yet dystopian. But it is the characters who keep you glued to the pages. Every major character has a backstory and inner conflict that make them riveting to read. Some of the plot twists and turns genuinely took me by surprise, especially the big reveal toward the end. A fantastic book that I highly recommend.
