Blood Tithe is a dark fantasy horror novel by Tony Fuentes and C.S. Kading. Twenty-year-old Imperium scribe Lyric Wax is eager to go through her Verdad ritual, a quest for truth. She joins Inquisitors Jalin Cortez and Esperanza Boyorquez on what was supposed to be a usual supply run to the nearby shrine. However, when the little group finds the town of Paraiso Verde utterly demolished by ghouls, they visit the shrine, seeking answers from Jailn's mentor, Judex Gale Stonebridge. As the three unlikely allies investigate the bloodshed further, it takes them beyond the Great Gates, where Lyric and her companions discover an ancient evil running rampant across several mining towns. Now, they must inform the Imperium of these terrifying monsters. But first, Lyric and her friends will confront the entity responsible for unleashing this evil in the Vargas.
Blood Tithe is the second novel I've read from the Gothika series, and I loved every moment of the experience. Tony Fuentes and C.S. Kading have built an immersive fantasy world featuring bloodthirsty monsters, dark magic, horror, and nailbiting action sequences you can't get enough of. The authors excel at crafting a vivid and dark fantasy atmosphere with rich lore and history about the land, making it feel lived-in. Added to the mix are the characters. Each character feels layered and displays complex emotions and motives that make them compelling to the reader. I enjoyed the dynamic between the main trio. If you're into dark fantasy worlds or mystery horror novels, I highly recommend Blood Tithe.
