Colleen M. Bratley brings young readers another enthralling installment in The Giving Collection with Blue Boo and the Fly Wire. The bluebird Boo was eating blueberries at his favorite patch when he met Carikee, a cardinal. Carikee has a unique talent for using uplifting adjectives for each letter of a person's name. When Carikee hears Boo's name, she cheers him up by using her talents. Soon, the two newfound friends meet Fidget. Boo comes up with a plan and sets up a town meeting at the twisted oak. He also devises an ingenious technique called the 'Fly Wire' to spread a message through his friends. At the town meeting, Carikee finally reveals what each letter in Boo's name signifies and how it defines him.

Blue Boo and the Fly Wire is a children's picture book that emphasizes the power of forging our own identities. Friendship and kindness are two common themes in The Giving Collection series, and this book is no different. Colleen M. Bratley has a talent for weaving captivating short stories for children and continues to do so in this picture book. Boo is a recurring character in the series. He is an adorable bluebird who forms close bonds with everyone. It doesn't take him long to become friends with Carikee. He is a character children will love. I also loved Carikee's vibrant energy. Boo and Carikee make a dynamic duo. The illustrations add so much color to the narrative, making it even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this book to young readers.
