Bobby and the Road of Smiles (Tales of Life and Wonder) by Sety H is as much for parents as it is for children. It teaches emotional control and has a lot of helpful tips that parents can use when their children throw tantrums or experience intense emotions. Bobby and his older sister Mimi start the day excited about the special mission their mom promised them. However, they get caught up in different activities and experience various emotions during the day that distract them. Their mom displays exceptional patience every time they experience intense emotions and act out. She teaches them how to breathe in and out instead of scattering things when they’re playing and end up fighting and how to crumple a sheet of paper to release anger instead of hitting and pushing each other.
It is beautiful how, no matter what happens, their mother always finds a way to dissipate the tension, getting to the root of the problem before providing solutions. All the instances used in the book are realistic scenarios that many parents will be able to relate to and have probably found themselves in at some point. The suggested ways to handle such situations are also clear and practical. There is a detailed note for parents at the end of the book that provides various reasons behind children acting up and urges them to be understanding, as even adults sometimes struggle to handle their emotions. Bobby and the Road of Smiles (Tales of Life and Wonder) by Sety H is an insightful guide that parents can use to handle children’s changing emotions, which can result in outbursts.
