Brody the Lion Needs a Hair Cut by Dr. Kristin Wegner starts with Brody, a little lion cub that hates getting haircuts. The sensation of getting his hair wet and the buzzing noise of the clippers makes Brody want to run away, but with his parents and friends by his side, he learns that haircuts are not as bad as they seem. Bit by bit, Brody gets through these daunting tasks together with his loved ones. This book also includes proven techniques that will help parents with children who have sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or autism to overcome their fear of certain daily activities, such as bath time and haircuts.
Brody the Lion Needs a Hair Cut by Dr. Kristin Wegner is a beautiful book for children with sensory issues, showing children and parents how to overcome specific fears related to daily activities. I liked that the story progresses slowly, emphasizing the importance of taking things one step at a time until the child is comfortable enough to overcome their fears. I also liked that it shows how powerful reassurance can be for children with difficulties. The storyline is brilliantly written, providing a simplified guide for parents to overcome sensory challenges with proven effective methods. The tips at the end are a great addition, giving a more in-depth summary of why some children react the way they do and suggestions for handling these situations most effectively.
