Everything Doctor Hope Sullivan did for her patients at the Boston Congress Medical Clinic was out of genuine care and love. Or perhaps it was her way to grieve her big losses. She had lost her parents, fiancé, and even her unborn child. Whichever it was, Dr. Hope could not fight the urge to help her patients. If one of her patients had an abusive husband, she abducted the husband, tortured him a little, and forced him to swear to change. If it was a dog abuser, she did the same. All was going well for her until she received an email saying, “I know what ur doing.” Before she knows it, she finds herself tied to a chair in a basement. Her captor wants to give her a taste of her own medicine as a way of avenging his deceased wife, who he claims died because of Hope’s negligence. But Hope does not remember the captor’s wife, and she has never lost a patient because of negligence. Could this be a mistake? Find out what happens in Carrie Rubin’s Broken Hope.

Carrie Rubin’s Broken Hope is just what you should be looking for if you love medical and psychological thrillers. Weaving an intriguing plot, Rubin laces the storyline with an unraveling tale of vengeance, espionage, blackmail, lust, adventure, thrills, humor, and so much more. The subtle tone of the storyline and the mystery accompanying the plot had me on the edge of my seat. Every time I thought I knew where the story was headed, I would be surprised by a plot twist that left me with more questions than answers. Rubin’s colorful and evocative depictions had me feeling like I was next to every character, helplessly watching them walk straight into danger or fight their way out of it. The depictions of the cast’s emotions and the juxtaposing of their complex traits made them easy to connect with. While Hope believed she served justice to those she perceived as perpetrators, she might be slowly turning into what she hated the most; the same perpetrators.

Broken Hope by Carrie Rubin tells the story of Dr. Hope Sullivan's struggle through grief following the deaths of her fiancé and parents. Hope practiced at the Congress Medical Clinic in Boston, and after examining some patients, she believed that bullies required a mental adjustment, or, as she put it, a "tune-up." Hope was a ferocious defender of her abused patients and the oppressed against these bullies, and these "tune-ups" were the only times she experienced any emotion. Hope was convinced she was the only one who knew what she was doing in her barn until she received an email saying that someone else knew about her secret. Hope did not respond to the emails at first, but as they got more personal, she decided she had to take action. When Hope’s stalker was admitted to the hospital, she realized there was a dangerous threat to her patients.

Broken Hope is a gripping psychological thriller. The plot included many descriptive moments and was full of mystery and intrigue. The story was fast-paced and full of action. It was such a page-turner that I had a hard time putting it down. All the twists and turns had me guessing, and I was left with a ton of questions. The characters were well-developed and authentic. They each had a believable background and were relatable. Hope's path made me feel a connection to her, and I hoped that she would find happiness in the future. I was captivated by this story to the very end, thanks to the excellent writing, and the unexpected conclusion provided all the answers I needed.
