The pacing is relentless, with twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the very end. C.D. Sharpe’s vivid descriptions and attention to detail immerse readers in the setting, from the serene beauty of Summer Haven to the eerie confines of the morgue. In Bryan's Bluff, a police procedural by C.D. Sharpe, after a near-fatal experience, Alex, her twin brother Lucca, and Shawn, their best friend, made an oath never to go back to Bryan's Bluff. But when Lucca phones Alex to tell her that Shawn was found at the bottom of Bryan's Bluff and it appears to be a suicide, Alex rushes home to find out what happened to her friend. With her background as a homicide detective, she has sufficient experience to assist Lou, the aging sheriff, with the investigation. As the investigation unfolds, Alex discovers several other suspicious deaths in the area over the past year. From speaking with next of kin and witnesses, she realizes that many of these cases don't quite add up. But the closer Alex gets to the truth, the more danger she and her brother may be in. Will they reveal the killer before they become the next victims?

C.D. Sharpe's fast-paced action thriller will keep the reader guessing. Bryan's Bluff is the central point around which the story builds. The narrative highlights inconsistencies between the victims' daily routines and their deaths, emphasizing the need to see each victim as a person and not merely concentrate on the circumstances around their deaths, but also, even if it seems like an accident, to ask why and how. The author also introduces the theme of military veterans and their struggles in dealing with what they witnessed and lived through during active duty. The author highlights the need for resources for mental health as well as the responsibility of veterans to seek help to successfully assimilate into society. Although the novel deals with serious topics, it is an easy read, and the events flow into each other seamlessly. C.D. Sharpe is an author to watch. With a compelling protagonist and a strong sense of place, the Alex Abrams series promises to be a standout in the genre.
