Bullying Prevention starts off with the basics, explaining what bullying is, why children do it, its effects, why particular kids are victimized, why bullies feel the need to victimize others, and the different types of bullying. In recent years, we are constantly hearing about the horrible consequences that bullying can result in, such as violence and even suicide. In days like these, it is essential for adults to be informed of and be aware of bullying situations and the effects that can result in order to help children overcome and deal with bullying in the most effective way. Bullying Prevention: What Parents Need to Know by Dr. W. Craig is an informative book that parents can use as a great resource in regards to bullying. From explaining the different types of bullying to advising parents on how to help children of all ages, this book offers great tips that all parents should know. What’s useful about this book is that there are chapters dedicated to each age range, from preschool, to elementary school, to adolescents, so that parents know how to help their specific child. Parents will also learn how to deal with schools and what resources to use in times of need.

As a parent and educator, I found Bullying Prevention: What Parents Need to Know by Dr. Wendy Craig, Dr. Debra Pepler and Dr. Joanne Cummings to be particularly interesting. Even though I have been lucky enough to never experience or witness bullying when I was a student and even now working in schools, I know I will probably come across it in the years to come. So, I am incredibly grateful to have read this and to now have a better idea of what to do if my students or if my children come across situations that involve bullying. What I liked about this book is that it didn’t make the bullies out to be the “bad guys.” There is advice for both the parents of the kids who are being victimized and the parents of the kids who are doing the bullying. I think it’s incredibly important to help both sides in order to prevent or stop bullying. This book may have information that is repeated throughout the chapters, which may be unnecessary, but overall, I really enjoyed this book and found it tremendously helpful. I would definitely recommend it to all parents.

Bullying Prevention: What parents Need to Know by Dr. Wendy Craig, Dr. Debra Pepler and Dr. Joanne Cummings is a book that should be a must-read for parents of children who are already in school, but it is also a good read for people who deal with children on a regular basis and who would like to be a good support to them. In this book, the reader learns about the various forms of bullying, how to find out whether a child is being bullied, why children bully, what you can do to stop it, and how to deal with the whole situation.

Even though I do not have any children of my own, I found Bullying Prevention: What Parents Need to Know by Dr. W. Craig a very informative read. It was well written and is easy enough to understand without sounding patronizing. The author(s) clearly want to help people understand the problem and find sensible solutions. Unfortunately, bullying is not as uncommon as one might think and often children are too ashamed to admit what is happening to them. Bullying Prevention shows you how to find out whether your child is bullied, i.e. what the signs are and how you can talk about the problem with your child to really get honest answers.

The information about cyber-bullying is also very helpful for parents - it's a current problem, it's becoming more wide-spread, and it's important for parents to know what to do to prevent it and what to do if prevention is not possible anymore. I love the fact that the book also clears up some myths about bullying and explains everything in a factual, yet empathetic manner.
