In C is For Cat, Dr Terrie Sizemore distills years of experience in veterinary medicine into an essential guide that answers just about any question the average cat mom or dad could ask. The information is organized into an accessible, easy-to-navigate format, and the accompanying photos vary from adorable to downright hilarious. Topics covered range from infectious diseases, which vaccinations are essential, the most common parasites, what to expect when your cat has kittens, and why dental care can be a lifesaver. Adopting a new kitten? Dr Sizemore has you covered on what you need to kitten-proof your home. Worried about an ailing pet? There's a useful checklist detailing which physical parameters to pay attention to.

Overall, I found the book to be highly educational, crammed with useful information that demystified so many of the basic diagnostic tests, treatments, and procedures. While keeping the narrative completely readable, even to the absolute layman, Dr Terrie Sizemore introduces some of the hardware and science behind veterinary medicine. This makes the book a valuable bridge between cat parent and veterinary caregiver. The sections on cat pregnancy and the arrival of kittens are particularly detailed, sharing exactly what to expect and what to do when things go wrong. Equally useful, especially for accidental adopters favored by the vagaries of the cat distribution network, there's a section on how to determine the age of a kitten. The section on seniors also provides a wealth of practical tips on how to ease your pet through the challenges of old age. This useful book belongs on the bookshelf of any cat parent. C is For Cat is an accessible introduction to veterinary science for young people who might be considering a career in the field.
