Caroline’s Lighthouse by Erica Zaborac is about a young girl who suffers a serious injury while competing in a show jumping competition in which her horse, Beau, is killed. For a time, Caroline turns her back on the sport that she enjoyed with her mother. Caroline and her mother, Holly, become estranged as each blames herself but doesn’t know how to approach the other to repair their relationship, which is heading for disaster. On her road to recovery, Caroline meets Conor, who has suffered a similar tragedy, that of his sister, Emily, who died in a car accident. Caroline gets a second chance with a horse named Benji, and she slowly learns to open her heart.
In Caroline’s Lighthouse by Erica Zaborac, throughout their journey, each person, in their own way, turns to God, asking Him for guidance and help. They ask Him how they can help each other, but they also stop to listen to the answers that He gives, even when these are not what they want to hear. As the characters lead the reader through their ups and downs, it shows how God is always with us, whether we acknowledge His presence or not. The characters bring the story to life in the most beautiful way that makes the reader think that these are people that they may know. This is a very enlightening book, especially for the youth of today. It brings to light how focused we become and how quickly we forget what is really important in life besides the goals we set for ourselves. It will remain in the reader's mind long after the book has been returned to the shelf. The ending is most inspiring and not what the reader will be expecting. This book will leave the reader thinking hard about their life. Thank you to the author for a wonderful story.
