Changing Light by Rebecca Stevenson is the heartbreaking yet heartwarming story of Faith Parker and Josh Whitehall. Faith Parker is the daughter of a preacher who decides to move to a small Maine town for a church that needs a new preacher. Faith's younger brother is upset about having moved and not having met anybody his own age so a neighbor helps find somebody to mentor him and cultivate his interest in photography. Josh Whitehall is a photographer with a past that haunts him so when he's first approached about helping Faith's younger brother, he says no, until he runs into Faith. Josh teaches Daniel about photography initially to get closer to Faith, but the little boy quickly wins him over and Josh starts helping him with math and spending more time with the family. When tragedy strikes the Parker family, can Josh help or will his past make him run?

Changing Light by Rebecca Stevenson is awesome. The imagery places you right there with the characters and they are realistic. The pain, regret, advice, and strained relationships found in Changing Light are ones that many people have experienced or will experience. The advice is particularly helpful as, even though I've heard it before and had it offered, it helped serve as a reminder to not forget. The community rallying around the Parkers was particularly touching and reminded me of a time in my life when my community did the same thing. Changing Light is uplifting and heartwarming even as your heart breaks. It's a book that everybody should read as it could help those in a similar situation and remind those who have been there that you can overcome the pain and regret from your past.
