Chardonnay Moms is exactly what it sets out to be; a bubbly insight into modern motherhood. Soccer moms who dream of their former glamorous lives are summed up in the phrase: “I traded sex in the city for hockey in the suburbs.” There are some wickedly clever one-liners in amongst the gentle comedy that flows through the book. The cartoons are beautifully drawn and mirror the text perfectly. This is not just about motherhood though; men are also targeted and subjected to authors Jane Condon and Bobbi Eggers' particular humor. Kids and family life feature heavily, but there is also reference to moms and their love of shopping and hair coloring! The dreaded menopause and all it entails also comes under scrutiny and is dealt with perfectly. This book is very funny and pithy.
I really enjoyed this book. Just like the Chardonnay in the title, this was a perfect pick me up, bubbly and sharp, filled with fruity overtones. Jane Condon and Bobbi Eggers thank a number of people who display their cartoons on their refrigerators and I will definitely be watching out for some cartoons to display on my own kitchen appliance! The ladies positively sparkle in their book, their sense of humor palpable when dealing with life’s ups and downs. Go and pour yourself a glass of your favorite tipple, settle down in your comfiest armchair, make sure the kids are occupied and enjoy this jewel of a book. You deserve it, because you are a Chardonnay Mom!
