Set during the French Revolution in the year 1793, Charlotte by S.R. Mallery is a short story that follows a young woman's perilous journey to meet the man who haunted her dreams. Twenty-four-year-old Charlotte has already braved swollen feet and twisted ankles on her way to Paris. But she is subjected to further misfortune when she is robbed of her clothes and purse during her stay at an inn by the roadside. Despite countless warnings by her family and the strangers she met on the road, Charlotte has a single-minded determination to reach Paris for an encounter with him. All she can think about is looking clean and beautiful enough for him to notice so she could be close to him. Will Charlotte reach the man of her dreams?

A fresh take on an infamous incident that changed the course of the French Revolution, Charlotte is a captivating read from start to finish. Author S.R. Mallery doesn't waste a single word and fills the narrative with a sense of tension and intrigue that will have you hooked until you've finished reading the story. The author infuses so much complexity and dynamism into the character of Charlotte that makes her feel like a living version of the historical personality she is based on. As a reader, you get a view into the mind of Charlotte and how she overcomes her challenges by sheer will to accomplish her mission.
