"Charly's Epic Fiascos" by Kelli London is a funny and sometimes whimsical look into the life of a teenager who has dreams of making it big in the New York acting world. Teenager Charly is basically the parent in her single parent family. She works waitressing and is then responsible for paying for the needs of herself, her mother and her younger sister Stormy. When Charly's mother steals money Charly has saved for the latest cell phone, Charly decides to call it quits with her family. She heads out for New York with little more than a superficial plan and a head filled with dreams of reality-show stardom. She encounters one problem after another but she always seems to be rescued at the moment in which she would truly have to use her resources in order to survive.

In many ways this is a delightful story in which little effort is essential for the reader. But at times, the main character of Charly appears to be superficial and thoughtless of the needs of others, such as her friends and her younger sister. At other times, Charly appears as the charming and charismatic character the author intended her to be. That said, most early teens will find the story delightful. It will dig into their own unrealized fantasies of freedom and stardom and will surely promote interesting conversations among like friends who dream of escaping from the mundane chores of growing up.
