Cinder-Zombie by Meagan Jeffrey is a really creepy rendition of the Cinderella story, unlike any version you have ever read before! Cindy is the typical modern day Cinderella, slaving for her step mother and step sisters, doing all of the work around the house, including the yard work and raking the leaves. One day, a mysterious man named Gord shows up and flirts with Cindy. That night he returns, but is no longer the handsome man he was during the day. He's a creepy zombie! He bites Cindy, turning her into a zombie as well, and tells her now she is free to wreak havoc on her step mother and step sisters and get revenge for the awful ways they have treated her over the years.
This was a unique way to twist the Cinderella story and I liked the fact that the author combined a classic fairy tale with a hot topic like zombies. I think this story will appeal to both fans of zombies and science fiction, and readers who are familiar with fairy tales and the Cinderella story. I especially liked that Cindy got the chance for revenge, because the Cinderella story has always needed to add some punishment for the wicked step mother and step sisters in my mind. There is some excessive language in this story, so some readers might be turned off by that, but I think most readers of horror are used to that kind of shock.
