Samantha Alis’ Clairvoyant follows Delilah Dufort, the daughter of a well-known lawyer in the small town of Baneberry. Gifted or cursed with the ability to see into people's pasts, Delilah used her visions to help solve mysteries. But she may have bitten more than she can chew when she found herself separated from her beloved brothers for a time. Determined not to be exiled again, she vowed to retire from her amateur sleuthing days and live a normal life. Or so she hoped. Upon her return, visions of horrifying scenes plagued her, each one tied to several disappearances of local youths. This time, fate introduces her to Dylan, a boy who will test her resolve and force her to confront the gift she can no longer escape.
I enjoyed reading Clairvoyant by Samantha Alis. Delilah feels like a cross between Nancy Drew and Melinda Gordon, and I loved her bravery and analytical mind. The story was really intriguing, and I couldn’t help but wonder along with the characters about the antagonist’s identity as Delilah had her visions, each one leaving a tantalizing clue. The descriptions of Delilah’s journey into the victims’ pasts were gut-wrenching and visceral. I can’t imagine having the same ability myself. I liked the steady pace, as this made each twist even more surprising. Delilah’s connection with her brothers was fascinating, too. The triplets worked like a well-oiled machine and fiercely protected each other. The ending was also very satisfying and answered all my lingering questions. I look forward to reading another Dufort triplets adventure!
