Everyone wants to live in a clean house, but cleaning can be so boring! In Olimena J. M. Rovanesi's book Cleaning Together: A Special Place for Friendship Book 2, a father and son discover a new way to freshen up their home. Aaron and his dad live in Chicago. They enjoy playing together and watching movies. One day, Aaron notices that their place doesn't smell very good. He and his dad investigate and discover the smell is coming from the refrigerator. After a good cleaning, they decide to improve their tidying habits. Dad comes up with a list of chores that need to be done every day. Aaron is not a fan of this plan. Rewards for cleaning are tried, and a cleaning service is brought in, but nothing seems to work. Will Aaron and his dad devise a plan to keep their home clean?
Olimena J. M. Rovanesi has tackled a problem that most families must deal with eventually. How do you equitably divide up chores to keep your house clean? A solution isn't reached on the first try, which is a valuable concept for kids to grasp. Sometimes, the first idea to solve a problem may not be the best, but it will lead to another. The soft, muted illustrations by Tania Ortiz fit the story perfectly. Many kids and parents will recognize the clutter that can accumulate if not taken care of regularly. The value of cooperation and working together is on full display in Cleaning Together: A Special Place for Friendship Book 2.
