Clementine Court: A Place Where Friends Meet by Chris Bakos introduces us to a diverse group of people brought together by moving into a new real estate development by the sea. Jen is looking the failure of her marriage in the face, due to fertility treatments not working. Georgie is only 17 and gives the appearance of having a perfect life, though it is anything but. Betty is an older landlady who is ready to not be a landlady anymore, and John is the last full time lodger that Betty has, with a parrot who happens to love Tammy Wynette.
A book about changes and how everyone deals with them; some like change and some don't. This book really hit home for me because, like Jen, I am facing the end of a marriage, though for different reasons. Chris Bakos has created a book that is touching and emotional while being an entertaining read as well. The flow of this book is very good and at no point did I feel like it was dragging or going too fast. You could get lost in an ensemble book so that is important to me. The characters themselves were all well developed and I found myself identifying most with Jen and John; even Georgie because I was a lot like her at 17! Overall, this is a fantastic book and a real credit to the chick lit genre. If you are looking for a chick lit author to add to your reading, I would highly recommend Chris Bakos and this book for you. Truly a fantastic book.
