Since Dr. Vince DeLuca's wife, Helen, died in the 9/11 terrorist attack, he thought he would die alone and drunk. But something is about to give him a new purpose. It all starts when Jacquelyn Carter, a woman married to the CEO of a defense contractor, arrives at Santa Barbara Community Hospital with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. After he conducts Jackie's surgery, Vince sits in the recovery room, waiting for the surgery buzz to wear off. Patients waking from surgery tend to ramble, and Jackie is no exception. But her ramblings startle Vince. Jackie mentions stingers and how the time has come for vengeance. Vince suspects there is something more serious than just confusion, and he decides to inform the FBI. Special Agent Carolyn Talbot is sent to dig deeper into the matter. Could the stingers Jackie mentioned be related to missing American weapons in the hands of terrorist groups? What revenge could they be planning? Pick up a copy of Code Crisis by Joe Purpura to find out.
The slow-burning romance that will make you fall in love with the characters also adds to the thrilling quality of this book. Special Agent Carolyn sweeps Vince off his feet with her charisma and beauty right from their first meeting. I kept wishing Vince would get the courage to tell Agent Carolyn how he felt about her each time they met. The characters are also noteworthy. Joe Purpura ensured they all had well-rounded personalities that made them as realistic as possible to the reader. The events unfold as seen through the eyes of Vince. This invited me to join him in his transformation as he prepares for whatever life throws his way. Code Crisis will be exciting for all patriots and anyone looking for a gripping thriller. It is an excellent book, and I anxiously anticipate a sequel.
