Many tubes of paint, all different colors, are used daily by a little boy who loves to create beautiful pictures. But, in Olesia Klochkova’s Colors: Where Did the Paints Go?, the paints are tired of being left unattended in a mess. One night, they escape through the window, seeking a better place to be appreciated. They find a safe place to sleep in a park, waking up to find children playing all around. One little boy makes nasty remarks, and later, he adds, “No one wants them, it is plain to see.” The colors are really sad, now. But a little girl comes alone and scoops them all up, takes them home, washes their dirty tubes, and starts making her own beautiful pictures. The colors feel loved again.

Olesia Klochkova’s picture book, Color: Where Did the Paints Go?, is an educational poem about colors and their magical journey. And a magical journey it is indeed. Told in rhyming verse, this clever little treasure will inspire young readers not only to create their own stellar pictures but also to take care of their paints and brushes. The plot follows this team of paints as they seek a better life with a little understanding, care, and appreciation. After all, it’s in the love and care that people, as well as paints, receive that one can really shine and glow. The illustrations are lovely, bright, bold, and colorful, and they certainly help move the story along, allowing young readers to feel a bond with these ingenious tubes of paint. A real gem for young readers, inspiring them to create and care.
