Author Biography

After her visits in 2012 and 2014, and after reading almost all the archeological books about this part of the world, Doreen realized that not one book had all the historical information about each place. She felt the need to share her journey to as many people who have yet to experience it.

She relates the holy inscriptions to every place, and you can read along with your Bible to make these places come alive. In this way, readers are able to experience the reality of Christ and develop a better understanding of the events outlined in the Bible.

Come With Us to the Promised Land: A Pictorial Biblical Encounter by Doreen Rose is a compelling book that offers a wonderful visual experience to readers. The author takes readers on an epic journey — thanks to unique skills in photography — to the places they have encountered in the Scriptures, places that have become household names. Some have become very symbolic of their faith and connection with Jesus, such as Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Gethsemane, and many others. With the use of stunning imagery, the author makes some elements of the Bible come alive, exploring historical places like the Mount of Olives, Hezekiah’s Tunnel, the Jordan River, and many others.

Doreen Rose first traveled to Israel in 2012 and then went back in 2014 in the company of six friends. She explains that the reality far outstripped the imagination. From ancient ruins to well-preserved religious sites, from sweepingly gorgeous views of locales to historic spots filled with biblical significance, the author guide readers, image after image, allowing them a strong feel of the reality. I enjoyed the commentaries that accompany each image and, in beautiful prose, the author establishes the direct link between each image and the scriptures. The Old and the New Testaments come alive in these pages. I loved how the author presented the geography, personalizing her encounter with the region intimately linked to the sojourn of Jesus among us. The personal stories accompany the presentations and the biblical references as footnotes enrich the experience of the journey. Come With Us to the Promised Land: A Pictorial Biblical Encounter allows readers to spiritually revisit the Promised Land and creates a deep longing to physically be there.
