A family’s obsession with a sports team leads a young man to question whether he just might be placing too much value on something other than God. A young woman separates from her cheating husband and seeks counsel from her clergyman, only to find herself becoming a victim of his inappropriate advances. A young family that loses a child at the hands of a heartless criminal decides not to hold a grudge, but instead to forgive. And just like these, each story in the first part presents the positive consequences that come to those who profess Christianity and choose to obey. Then the cards turn and we find an enthusiastic fan that takes her love and admiration too far until the police have to intervene. A young man goes into serious debt in order to have the latest fad. A young woman treats other people better than she treats her own mother. The results of bad choices are clear and serious in the second part of the book.

Command Me-Not is a book that uses a brilliant strategy to teach youngsters the Ten Commandments. Each commandment is illustrated by a practical story with which readers of all ages can easily identify. The stories use well-known situations in which the protagonist is faced with a choice. In each experience shared, when the right decision is made the person benefits. But when the wrong decision is made and the person totally disregards the commandment, the consequences are quickly felt. The commandment is mentioned at the end of each anecdote as a way to reinforce the lesson that is being illustrated. Both Lovey Shareese and Dominique Wilkins reveal their storytelling skills and their knowledge of human behavior in this book. Anybody who believes in the validity of the Ten Commandments should read this book.
