Crack in the Red Ice: A Red Ant Mystery is an outstanding mystery by J. Jones. It concerns Donna Roybal, an environmental engineer better known as the Red Ant. Donna is renowned for her determination to solve environmental issues. She dreams of clean drinking water for everyone and has a system in place for processing groundwater. Donna faces accusations that her water treatment plant is not working properly and that something is missing. A revelation by a Russian shipyard director is also threatening the integrity of Donna’s system, and she can see her dream slipping away from her. Donna is afraid that she may not have done the prep work in the laboratory properly and that it was her fault. Donna is in danger after an attempt on her life. She is determined to find the truth behind the accident in the laboratory and make her dream come true.
The plot in Crack in the Red Ice by J. Jones is intriguing and exciting. The story is fast-paced and full of action. I refused to put the book down because I was too afraid to miss anything. With all the twists and turns, I never knew what to expect next. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages as fast as I could. The description of Siberia was vivid and engrossing. It was easy to be drawn into the world of water purification. The characters are well-developed and relatable and Donna was my favorite. She will stop at nothing to ensure that her dream of clean water comes true. She does not have much support from her people and is even willing to take on the Russians. The mystery was well-written and exceeded my expectations by far.
