R.L. Hare’s Cracks in the Blind Spot follows Detective Elena Kolonik, a meticulous investigator. Elena believes that there is evidence at every crime scene if you look closely enough. Elena approaches each case with this belief and has an eagle eye for details. Caleb, a mechanic leading a quiet and ordinary life, is involved in a parking lot accident. After this incident, his life was turned upside down forever. Elena is drawn into a series of suspicious deaths, beginning with a body whose fatal injuries suggest blunt force trauma consistent with either a fall or a violent strike against metal. At the crime scene of another body, Elena had the feeling that she was missing something important. A true-crime blog known as The Barnaby Report publishes commentaries on a homicide before the information reaches the press. This raises troubling questions about who knows what and why, talking through the blog.
Cracks in the Blind Spot: The Elena Kolonik Files succeeds through its interesting plotting and strong characters. Elena is intelligent, and her character was believable and engaging. Caleb was an ordinary man who changes because of his circumstances. The Barnaby Report added mystery to the investigation, and I could not wait to see who was behind this. With all the twists and turns, I never knew what would happen next. R.L. Hare’s writing style is engaging and descriptive. The scenes were vivid and easy to visualize. Several plots were woven together well in this riveting story. The book was excellently written, and I really enjoyed reading it.
