In Cursed: A Spellbound Regency Novel by Lucy Leroux, Isobel Sterling has settled in as governess to the Montgomery household children, grateful for a quiet, if boring existence. She has managed to keep her secret well hidden and feels safe in her role where she is largely ignored by the lord and lady of the house. Everything changes when the Garibaldis come to visit. Matteo Garibaldi is very focused on her and his attentions place her in danger. There is something amiss about Matteo that she can sense, which makes her wary. Isobel attempts to avoid his presence, but manners dictate she must accept his invitation to dinner. At dinner, it is clear that Matteo's father disapproves of his obvious attraction to her. Isobel is uncomfortable with the attention and longs to retreat to the anonymity of her life. Isobel sees the darkness surrounding his aura and wonders if he has anything to do with the recent string of missing women. Isobel finds the answer when she is locked in a room with Matteo one night. She must use her hidden skills to protect herself, but doing so changes her life forever.
Cursed: A Spellbound Regency Novel by Lucy Leroux is a historical romance chock full of magic, curses and drama. Cursed is the second novel I have read by this author. I enjoy her characters, who differ from the typical dynamic of the damsel in distress scenarios found in most romances. She writes vivid lovemaking scenes that fit well into the pace of the story. The added twist of curses and magic made Cursed fun to read from start to finish.
