The characters were excellently developed and skillfully handled. They were described as ordinary people, each with a specific set of skills. The characters were strong and relatable. Dangerous Food was superbly written. Now and then there was a surprise turn I did not expect. I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story.

In this particular novel, I really enjoyed the espionage element as it was much more low-key than the standard violent incursions one sometimes finds in action novels, and this subtlety made it harder to predict the twists and turns that the story might take. I really liked Elizabeth as a powerful female lead character with a lot of great skills and a well-rounded personality beyond just being a love interest. Overall, I would certainly recommend Dangerous Food as a standalone thriller read but also as part of the larger series. I cannot wait to see where it takes me next!

Doctors Smith and Browning have it, and because of Clark Selby’s three-dimensional characterization, the storyline works. Selby effectively uses their romantic relationship by putting them in harm’s way, while at the same time, it provides him with a sound reason for elaborate settings, espionage, and intrigue. He makes the story work because he pulls you along in the adventure, and you are glad enough to be pulled. The plot allows you to understand the trappings that go with preserving the interests of national security. Dangerous Food is an entertaining read that will appeal to readers who love thrillers with a strong element of romance.
