Pablo de Silvia is an ex-CIA spy who is happily spending his days with his girlfriend in a remote farmhouse and is very happy in his quiet life, done with the dangers of his past. This is changed overnight when Stuart Bishop, his old CIA handler, comes ringing the doorbell in the middle of the night with a new and secret mission. The two immediately set off to find out who killed one of their agent friends and what he discovered that would cause anyone to want him dead. Pablo and Stuart do their best to stay under cover and search for clues without being detected. This does not turn out to be as easy as they had planned and they are faced with many pitfalls, suspenseful moments, and twists and turns as they travel from the United States to England, to Paris, and then back home again to the United States.

Darkness and Blood lives up to its description with great accuracy. I enjoyed reading this thrilling novel. Although sometimes it seemed to be a slow read and have some unnecessary dialog, the story kept me going and wanting to read more. Author Steve Haberman has a really good handle on the spy business and takes the characters in the right direction, making them likable and readers wanting the good guys to win the battle. The ending draws all of the pieces together and comes as a great surprise. This is a must-read for all spy, CIA, and suspense novel fans as they will not be disappointed.
