Death by Greed is a murder mystery novel from Abigail Keam's A Josiah Reynolds Mystery series. After many tumultuous events, Josiah Reynolds has become a successful beekeeper living a humdrum life in the Kentucky Bluegrass on her animal farm when, one day, an enraged Texas Longhorn bull barges into her horse pasture. Having gotten the animal under control, Josiah and her vet, Esau Clay, arrive at the Longhorn owner Ulysses Grant's house, only to find him dead. Lucas McCain, the detective assigned to the case, soon declares it an accidental death caused by the bull and prepares to have Tex put down. Now with the animals from Grant's estate living on Josiah's farm, she finds herself embroiled in an unwanted tussle with Grant's relatives, with ever-rising stakes. Can she find the real cause of Grant's death and bring the culprits to justice?
Abigail Keam crafts yet another captivating murder mystery novel with a few well-placed curveballs in the plot to keep readers guessing and glued to the pages. The characters have well-developed personalities and backstories that drive their actions and motives. Keam keeps the narrative moving at a brisk pace, which makes for a smooth read you can probably finish in a single sitting. Josiah is a relatable protagonist you will find easy to root for. Her dogged determination to fight for the truth and save Tex makes her an immensely sympathetic character. Overall, this is the third sleuth mystery novel I've read by Abigail Keam, and she seems to get better and better at her craft with each passing installment. Anyone itching for a cozy murder mystery should grab a copy of Death by Greed.
