Twenty-five years have passed since Mick Johnson tragically lost his younger brother in an abandoned mine. He believes he has moved on from that event, but his annual visits to Death Valley tell a different story. This time, his editor has assigned him to cover the World Series of Poker, the largest poker tournament in the world. Everything seems to go smoothly until Mick meets Rose, a friendly park ranger who shows him an intriguing photograph that defies logic. The reporter doesn't realize it yet, but he is about to become entangled in a conspiracy involving a greedy landowner, an ecological disaster, and the poker game of the century. The sole connection linking all these elements is a coin Mick carries everywhere as a good luck charm. Only time will tell if he can connect the dots before it's too late in Kim Brian Snyder's Death Valley.

In Death Valley, Kim Brian Snyder outlines the events surrounding Mick's brother's death, emphasizing his unique family background and explaining why his family often visited Death Valley, displaying rich character development. The author highlights distinctive dialogue across various timelines. Mick's conversations with Rose, reflecting a modern, light-hearted tone, gradually shift to era-appropriate banter that underscores his experiences in the Old West. Snyder weaves this dialogue with relevant historical references to engage readers in the adventure. Rose's inventive methods of courting Mick will intrigue romance fans. Science fiction purists will admire Snyder's captivating storytelling style, which employs cleverly hidden clues in a seamless narrative that frequently alternates between the past and present. These elements create a gripping tale designed to enchant readers searching for something different.
