In the suspenseful romance novel Deception by Design, Isabella Hughes is a successful interior designer and owns a firm in Manhattan. A farm girl who hailed from Ohio, her past is left behind as she becomes a successful businesswoman with a great career and a dreamlike marriage. But some good things never last. Her husband, Grayson, becomes unhappy with his inability to match up with her success. Then, there is also a matter of personal issues from her past that never quite disappear from her life. When she receives a grand design project from an important client, Isabella sees it as rewarding but unfamiliar ground. When a new project manager, Julian Groissaint, comes aboard, her life starts to spiral more out of control.
I absolutely love the premise and Trish Beaudet is able to deliver a story that engages readers emotionally in an instant. The catalyst for Isabella and Grayson’s marriage woes is a familiar situation that I believe many readers can relate to. The multi-layered plot is one of the best I have read so far; unpredictable and full with suspense. Not all writers can master characterization that easily, but Beaudet really nailed it with hers. Despite her many flaws, I found myself rooting for Isabella again and again, hoping that she could overcome her personal demons and the obstacles that she has to face. Coupled with the sensuality of the story, it is hard not to fall in love with Deception by Design. As such, romance fans should not miss this.
