Deep Trauma by Kat Edwards is an exciting introduction to the Riley Brighton series. Dr. Riley Brighton works as an ER doctor and is accustomed to witnessing the worst aspects of humanity. However, when she encounters an accident on the freeway, it leads to far more than just a simple incident. Murder and chaos become her new reality. Driven by a desire for justice, Riley embarks on an investigation but soon realizes that she can’t trust anyone. Every clue points back to those who are supposedly assisting her. Could her new friends be guilty of the very crimes they are helping her to investigate? In the midst of Riley unraveling the mystery behind the killings, she discovers that she has become a scapegoat in a medical inquiry concerning the misconduct of another doctor. Will she be able to clear her name and uncover who is behind these hate crimes?
Kat Edwards masterfully engages readers by escalating the plot with each new death and looming danger. The pace steadily increases with each suspect, inquiry, and death. Riley rarely misses a step as she juggles the trouble at the hospital and the dangers outside. The characters are well-developed, each with unique quirks that bring them to life. Deep Trauma's intricate details create a vivid read, making you feel as though you are witnessing amateur sleuths in action. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys an action-packed read that captures the suspense and intensity of well-crafted medical fiction, and I look forward to the next in this series.
