Toya Raylonn Vickers was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio and currently lives in Hilliard, Ohio as a single African American woman. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the Ohio State University and attended Howard University to gain a Masters in Social Work. In 2003 she was involved in a life threatening car accident where she found herself trying to re-invent the wheel. Through much prayer and fasting she returned to her first love of writing. This is the first book of many to come for Miss Vickers. She is a published poet and novice song writer. She dares to walk in the newness of life and humbly writes to edify God.

I always enjoy reading new books, especially by new authors. Every author needs the chance to have their work read and appreciated. When the opportunity arose to review a new book by a new author, I took the chance. I'm both happy and sad to say that I both enjoyed it, and had a little trouble with it. That being said, Toya Raylon Vickers shows great talent in her authoring skills, and I know she will be going places with her work. I'm sad with the book because it took me a bit of time to get into the story. It was a little confusing for me, starting off at a 2006 New Year's Party, and I really wasn't sure where the story was headed. About a third of the way into the story, I became a bit more oriented with the characters and where the story was going, so I was able to overlook the first lapses in the story.
Now, on to the rest . . . I did enjoy getting to know each character individually, and as a whole group. These ladies, nestled among the pages, will become your friends by the end of the story. Ms. Raylonn-Vickers will make you a part of the story, and take you on a whirl wind ride of laughter, anger and contentment as you get to know these strong women. Tracy, Sharon and Destiny are beautifully created characters. Each one had issues in their lives, but in the end, turning it all over to God really helps them out. I saw a bit of myself in each of the women from Tracy, who gets almost anything she wants (I am a bit of a spoiled woman!), to Sharon who had a bit of man trouble -- they seemed to flock to her even if she didn't like them (I always drew the wrong men to me -- it is why I'll be forever single now!), to Destiny, when she wanted something, she wanted it to be to her liking, including her men(I would sometimes try to change the man thinking I could make it better . . .).
Reading these 3 ladies' stories, I really ended up getting into the whirlwind of laughter with them. I became one of them and felt the pull of having new friends, Godly friends, who leaned on Him, and by the end of the book, I didn't want it to end.
Overall, this is a wonderful book worthy of high recommendation. Once I pushed past the first part of the book, I couldn't even remember WHY I was confused with the story. I am looking forward to another great 4 star book from this talented lady! Thank you, Ms. Raylonn-Vickers for your wonderful talent and humor!
