In Dominion by P.T.L. Perrin, Gabri O’Connell and her dragon Makani face a mounting threat as Ozul’s forces tighten their grip, using mind-controlled dragons and advanced weapons to attack refugee strongholds. Gabri’s brother Alex, with his dragon Tito, discovers new telepathic powers and endeavors to protect Phoenix, a rogue dragon resisting enemy control. Together with Elio, Donny, and the Dragon Guild, Gabri coordinates covert rescue operations to save endangered Aracai and singers from Ozul’s grasp while testing new cloaking technologies. As evacuations and skirmishes swell, the group faces Ozul’s plan to immobilize dragons with lethal weapons, forcing them to defend their sanctuary and prepare for further conflict. Dominion is the third book in the Dragon Guild, centering on the efforts to preserve people and dragons against an enemy bent on domination and destruction.
Dominion by P.T.L. Perrin is a fast-moving, wonderful novel that firmly connects characters and settings to readers through action and fantastic immersion. I love how Dragon Riders work across land, air, and water, coordinating supply missions, patrols, and training, with impressive aerial maneuvers, and group activity across Sanctum and Terra. Perhaps the most beautiful scenes to me are the bonding sequences, and the characters themselves, all of whom are distinct. Donny’s steady leadership, Margo’s sharp instincts, and Gabri’s coordination keep the operations running, but Perrin delivers constant threats, including from abductors and dangerous technology, that keep the pot on a steady boil. The book has a satisfying closing but promises that there are plenty of missions left ahead. Overall, this is a fabulous third book in an already great series.
