Don't Fart in the Pool is a humorous children's picture book written by Ben Jackson and Sam Lawrence and illustrated by Tanya Zeinalova. We've all had embarrassing moments in life that we desperately wish to bury and hope others have forgotten. This book follows the story of a young boy named Stan, who is a very skilled farter. He is very good at hiding his farts. Well, except for that one incident the previous summer. I suppose Stan could blame it on his mom's delicious tacos from their Taco Tuesday the night before. But ultimately, Stan is to blame. He could not help but devour seven whole tacos. As they say, all good things must come to an end. An embarrassing end, at least for Stan.
Zeinalova's illustrations do a tremendous job of conveying the hi-jinx of this colorful story. To some extent, Don't Fart in the Pool is a cautionary tale. Of course, it isn't as stark as stories like The Boy Who Cried Wolf or the Three Little Pigs or Little Red Riding Hood. Ben Jackson and Sam Lawrence have written a book that is as funny and lighthearted as one would expect of a children's book with that title. The pages are well-designed and vibrant. The font pops out at you and is just as whimsical as the rest of the book. If you don't mind a book about farting and if you have children who love a good laugh, I recommend looking no further.
