Don’t Pet the Fluffy Cows! by Dee Dee Fox is a playful, rhyming picture book with a serious message about wildlife safety. The story follows Jimmy, who has waited nearly a year for his vacation to the grasslands to see the majestic bison. He is thrilled to spot the enormous animals and can hardly contain his excitement. When he announces that the bison look “so fluffy” and that he wants to pet one, his mother quickly warns him to stay back and leave the animals alone. Ignoring her advice, Jimmy reaches out anyway, and within seconds, he is sent flying through the air. The consequences are immediate: bumps, bruises, and a hurried trip to the doctor. As Jimmy sits recovering, he realizes he should have listened to his mom.
Dee Dee Fox combines humor and rhythm to deliver a memorable cautionary tale. The rhyme scheme keeps the pacing engaging, making the lesson easy for children to absorb without feeling lectured.
