I was intrigued by the synopsis of this book as I primarily wondered how the sensitive subject matter, i.e. surrogacy and abortion, would be tackled. I read the first few chapters, not really expecting great things from the novel, which did strike me at first as being written in a YA style. However, the sudden plot twist made me rethink my initial impressions as I was completely sucked into the intrinsic web this talented writer has woven with this tale. Once the pace picked up, I could not put the book down.

This story takes the reader through a myriad of emotions, culminating in a breath-taking finale. Just when you think it's all over, Nancy Wood picks you up and hurls you back in. My only criticism of this book was that I initially could not find any love for the main character, Shelby, although she certainly redeems herself by the ending. I just wish I could have felt more empathy toward her plight although this could be a personal thing and perhaps other readers will like aspects of her personality more than I did. I will be looking out for more from this writer. If this is a debut novel, we have a lot to look forward to from Nancy Wood.
