E:volve is a work of fiction in the science fiction, action, and adventure sub-genres, and was penned by author Dominic Louis DiMarco, along with art by illustrator Rosi Nyam. Intended for young adult reading audiences and older, this conceptual and enigmatic work of speculative fiction focuses on the sinister conspiracies and plots behind what seems to be a fashionable new virtual reality game. Our hero is Koda, a young man stuck in a small town with an apparent lack of prospects. But when Koda and his friends enter The Axys and win a tournament that sends them a unique prize, little do they know they have dipped their toes into dark waters, and will soon discover there’s more at stake than they could ever have imagined.

Author Dominic Louis DiMarco has crafted a truly excellent work of science fiction with videogame, futuristic, and some superhero theming to enrich its mix of atmospheres and influences. One of the things which I particularly loved about the work was the way in which it balanced Koda’s normal sensibilities as a teen of being popular, successful, and cared for alongside the much bigger stakes of the task at hand once the dark conspiracy begins to be unveiled. This is an intelligently plotted work with logical intentions from its antagonists, but it also has the technological scope to offer lots of surreal action and adventure moments too. Overall, this makes E:volve a highly recommended read for YA audiences and up who enjoy suspenseful and high octane science fiction fun.
