Author Biography

Asterio Rz. Diamante is a retired educator and former engineer whose professional journey has taken him from the Philippines to the highlands of Yemen and the classroom of Los Angeles. He has written personal essays, poetry, and memoir about work, migration, and belonging. He is the author of three books published on Amazon KDP: Rain on Sunny Day, Echoes Through Time and Space, and Fireworks of Dreams.
I thought of writing a book about myself for my grandchildren and future generation. This book is a reflective memoir of my growing up in the Philippines, my time working in Yemen, in the late 1980s, and later migrating to the U.S., where I retired as a high school teacher. Each story carries a deep sense of introspection and contemplative narration. The settings are described blending with the cultural background and zeitgeist of the period. The stories weave themes of duty, personal growth, and the impact of relationships.

Echoes Through Time and Space by A. RZ. Diamante is a deeply poignant and reflective collection of stories that explore and weave together the enduring themes of love, family, and heritage. Each story takes the reader on a journey, exploring the bonds that have shaped the author’s identity and connection. Diamante skillfully engages the reader in a story of his early life growing up in the Philippines, his initial career in the Middle East, his life as a migrant in the United States, and his frequent returns home to visit and reconnect with family and friends. The author’s love for his birth country, its rich history, and vibrant culture shines through in each story.

In Echoes Through Time and Space, A. RZ. Diamante's clear and engaging style made reading the stories effortless yet rewarding. I enjoyed the historical contexts woven into the stories, which made each one thought-provoking. This gave the reader a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical forces that shaped the author’s life and identity. Additionally, this highlighted how the past influenced his family’s values, choices, and resilience. Diamante used the first-person narrative, which made me feel like I had just met him and he was giving me his life story. While the general mood of the stories was nostalgic, there were also life lessons intertwined, for example, Diamante’s description of his father’s character and how this shaped his professional life. Readers who enjoy reflective and moving narratives that explore the immigrant experience and cultural heritage will undoubtedly enjoy this book.
