Created and illustrated by Bub, Eight Fairy Nights is a children's picture book that celebrates the Jewish festival of Hanukkah and delves into how it came to be. A long time ago, King Antiochus wanted all his people to follow his beliefs and ordered his army to destroy the Jewish Temple. But Judah Maccabee was resolute and stood firm in his beliefs. He gathered a small army known as the Maccabees and went toe-to-toe against the king's powerful army. Later, the Maccabees were able to restore the Jewish Temple. With the help of the Hanukkah fairies, the Maccabees kept burning the small container of oil they found in the Temple for eight unbroken nights. Each of those fairies represents the eight special virtues of the Maccabees.

Eight Fairy Nights is a feel-good story that sheds light on the tradition of Hanukkah in a way children can understand and appreciate. This book also presents the eight virtues of the Maccabees and the Hanukkah fairies. It shows how each of these virtues can help people face and overcome significant challenges in their lives. Bub's story will engage young readers as well as inspire them to embody the virtues of the Maccabees. The illustrations are quirky, colorful, and entertaining. Toward the end of the book, readers will also find five simple riddles to solve and templates for fairy cards to celebrate a particular night of Hanukkah. Although primarily written for children, I think even adults, especially Jewish parents, will find a lot to love about this book.
