Ellie's Rules by Cassie O'Brien is the story of one tough cookie named Ellie and how she finds out that she is not as indifferent as she thinks she is. Ellie really isn’t in relationships. She can make friends, have some benefits and then when it is time to part, she remains on good terms with her exes. But there is something about Mark Walker that just draws her in. It’s not that she is ashamed of being in a relationship; her past experiences just don’t allow her to take that extra step. She realizes just a few days before Christmas that her relationship with Mark could be more than she bargained for and she is in too deep already. Back home with her family for Christmas, she thought she would use that time to reflect and think about her future, sans Mark if possible. However, Mark takes this as an opportunity to show her that a public relationship with him is the best thing that could happen to her.
Boy, do I love Ellie. She is spunky, rebellious, sporty and pretty much the coolest girl, hands down. I loved her attitude, her style and the way she talked. Mark is perfect for her; he is grounded where she is jaded, he is spontaneous where she is a little lethargic and together they have perfect harmony. This short, sweet novella is perfect for a quick read where you get to experience a great slice of life and feel fulfilled at the end of it. I loved the chemistry between the two, the way they gave in to their relationship and how the story all tied up at the end! Ellie's Rules by Cassie O'Brien may be short but it packs a mighty punch of entertainment.
