Entwined Hearts: The Sunset of Alzheimer’s Disease and More of Life’s Reality by JJ Janice is a heartwarming and thought-provoking memoir. Janice was looking for books to motivate an ESL class when a friend suggested a book by a particular author named Anita. On the last page of her book, Anita provided her phone number. The book had been published over three decades before, yet Janice decided to reach out to the author in the hope of getting more copies for her classroom. Surprisingly, she was able to meet the author the same day. That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Janice and Anita. Unfortunately, Anita was battling with Alzheimer’s disease, but before she bade farewell to this world, she was a mentor and a friend to Janice.
I am glad that I read Entwined Hearts by JJ Janice. Having worked in the biomedical research industry I am acutely aware of the slow but steady decline that such disorders have on the quality of life of a patient, their family, and friends. I was delighted to see that Janice included a tally highlighting the times that Anita could claim a victory over her condition. Janice also developed a friendship with Lynn and Tom, Anita’s daughter and husband. Sadly, they have both moved on. However, while they were alive, they were able to create beautiful memories that endure through this memoir. More importantly, Janice shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them through her words and actions. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
