Eva's Imagination by Patricia Smith is a funny and informative book for children two years old and above. Written by an American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor with over 25 years of experience, this book contains everything a child needs to know about swimming and being safe in and around water. Illustrated by Gramilla, this short book is filled with lovely illustrations and real-life photos. Not only will it make you smile and laugh, but it'll also inspire you to find joy in learning to swim, providing a positive overall experience for children.
When I first read Eva's Imagination, I was attracted to the colorful and frankly adorable illustrations; however, the longer I read the book, the more impressed I became with the author's masterful delivery of this great concept. In my opinion, almost everyone can relate to having to learn to swim during their childhood, and perhaps not everyone had the best instructor as some instructors tend to get distracted and are not attentive to their students' needs. Patricia Smith did an incredible job of explaining how to swim in terms that a child can easily understand while also reflecting the best qualities of an instructor, which are patience and constantly interacting with the child. The difficulty in writing children's books is capturing the child's short attention span, but Patricia achieved this by using fun imagery. For any parent looking to teach kids how to swim and be safe in the water, this book is for you!
